The Policy of King Edward I Towards Wlaes ( 1277-1301 A.D)

Abstract

Wales was partially independent of England and the Welsh princes were adherent to England. In 1276 A.D, the prince of Wales; Lewelyn, refused to be adherent to king Edward I. This made king Edward I himself led a military expedition across Wales till 1278. In 1282 the Welsh, led by Lewelyn and his brother Dafydd, were provoked into revolt against the English. Once again, King Edward I started a new military battle till 1284 A.D resulted in the defeat of the Wales' ambition, the total annexation of Wales, and it became an English colony. In 1301, king Edward I named his son as the new prince of Wales and this tradition lasted till nowadays.
