Religious Heritage Intertextuality in Mahmoud Shalabi’s Diwan “Fields of the Flute”

Abstract

This research aims at shedding light on the mechanism that the Jordanian poet Mahmoud Shalabi utilized in employing religious texts in his Diwan (Fields of the Flute).This is achieved by highlighting the conscious and deliberate relations between his poetry and the missing texts inspired by the religious heritage. It also investigated the relationship between Arabic poets and heritage, and then Mahmoud Shalabi’s engagement with heritage as well as his perspective on it. Moreover, it examined the poet's Diwan; the time of writing, the purpose of building the Diwan, and the arrangement of poems. Then the study dealt with two aspects of the use of religious heritage intertextuality in the poet's Diwan.The study concluded with the key findings arrived at through the analysis of the texts in the poet's Diwan (Fields of the Flute).
