Study of hand syndromes in diabetic patients attending Al Kadhemiya teaching hospital, Baghdad

Abstract

To assess the prevalence rates of hand syndromes among diabetic patients compared to non diabetic patients. A 96 diabetic patients & 100 non diabetic patients as a control group were comprised in the study . All patients underwent complete rheumatic examination to assess the hand syndromes like diabetic cheiroarthropathy Dupuytren’contracture , flexor tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome & reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Other diseases rather than D.M were excluded clinically & by routine investigations. Prevalence amongst two groups was subjected to statistical analysis using T test & ‘z’ test. In diabetics are more frequent; Dupuytren’s contracture (p<0.001), diabetic cheiroarthropathy, flexor tenosynovitis and carpal tunnel syndrome (p<0.05). on conclusion : The prevalence rates of hand syndromes among diabetic patients are statistically significant than in non diabetic patients
