Prophylactic cervical suture in triplet pregnancy

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of transvaginal cervical suture in triplet pregnancy by comparing the obstetrics outcome of triplet pregnancy with or without cervical suture. This is a prospective study conducted in Tikrit city, Iraq, between March 2006 and August 2009 include thirteen women of triple pregnancy .This study include women had normal cervical length and width detected by transabdominal ultrasound .Cervical circulage done for them before 14 weeks of pregnancy under general anesthesia. Percentage and mean were used for statistical analysis . This study showed that (90)% had cervical suture had preterm labour while (76,3)%without cervical suture had preterm labor .The mean gestational age at delivery for the cervical circulage group( 27.4 weeks )was different from the non cervical circulage group(34.6 weeks).The mean age in both group was 30 years ,7 women was primgravida ,and other 6 was multigravida. Ten of women had in vitro fertililisation ,three of women had spontanous pregnancy .Fifty three percent had emergency lower segment caesarean section, seven percent had hysterotomy ,fifteen percent had vaginal delivery and twenty three percent had abortion . Ante partum hospitalization in non cervical circulage was 6.3 day and in cervical circulage group was 12.5 day as(means). This study concluded that prophylactic cervical suture in triplet pregnancy had no role in management of triplet pregnancy. Further studies are needed
