Abstract

The level of the expressive performance according to several variables for the Arabic department students, College of EducationThe study aimed at identifying the level of the expressive performance according for the Arabic department students, College of Education according to the variables represented by grade, gender and main language. The sample consisted of (190) first and forth grade male and female students, department of Arabic, college of Education. Achieving the goal of the research required a tool to measure the level of performance for the sample. The scholar reviewed the criteria prepared by Al-Hashimi(1994), which were adopted by several studies following his study and which relied on the expressive performance. Because the stage studied by the current research is different from the ones on which the criteria were applied, it was necessary to modify the criteria according to the current stage (university stage). So, the scholar represented the criteria made by Al-Hashimi (1994) to a commission consisted of experts. Some of the clauses were modified, some of them were removed and some were added and that made the tool ready to be applied after its modification. To verify the correctness of the modification, the scholar applied the expressive performance test on a preliminary sample consisting of (25) male and female students from the department of Arabic, college of Education. He relied on two techniques to verify the correctness of the modification which are: the concordance with another reviser and the concordance throughout time. The rate of consistency for the first technique was (0.83) and (0.91)for the second one which is considered a fair rate. After applying the expressive performance test to the sample of the study, correcting their responses and processing the data statistically, the following findings were shown: 1.The written expressive performance for the students of the department of Arabic was low.2.There was no statistically significant difference among the means of the sample according to main language variable. In light of these results the research concluded a set of recommendations and proposals.
