Effect of leaching requirements and plot dimensions on some nutrients absorption and growth of roots corn (Zea mays L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in fall 2008 at Abdul Salamia village of Heet city of Al Anbar governorate in Silty Clay soil to study the effect of leaching requirement and plot dimensions on nutrients absorption and roots distribution of corn plant . البحث مستل من أطروحة ماجستير للباحث الثانيSalty well water of 5.83 dS.m-1 from the area has been mixed with Euphrates water of 1.07 DS.m-1 in order to form mixed water of 3.45 DS.m-1 salinity. R C B D Factorial experiment was applied with 3 replicates using design. Results of this experiment showed the following:1-Root lengths were increased significantly when L.R 25% level was added in comparison with 15% level.2-The relative distribution of the group of roots weight varied with depth the ratio was 68 -72% for 0-30 cm ,22-25% for30-60 cm and 4-6% for 60-90 cm depth with ratio of 1-2% of depth 90-120 cm.3- The decreased in L.R caused an increase in Na+1 ,K+1 ,Ca2+, Mg2+ ,SO42- and Cl1- ions with significant difference in roots of corn plant. Also a significant difference for plot dimensions for K+1 and Cl1- were found but no significant difference were found for Na+1,Ca2+, Mg2+ and SO42- .
