Contamination of Cattle Hides and Workers by Pathogenic Bacteria in Mosul Abattoir

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the contamination of cattle hides and workers in mosul abattoir by certain types of pathogenic bacteria ,seventy two samples were collected during the period between April and July 2006,divided by 36 samples of cattle hides from the rumps, flanks and brisket areas and 36 samples from workers including the hands , clothes and shoes. After bacteriological tests done the results showed that there were mainly four types of pathogenic bacteria which were Campylobacter , Bacillus cereus , Staphylococcus aureus and E.coli. Data obtained from the cattle hides indicated that E.coli, Bacillus cereus, Campylobacter and Staphylococcus aureus were recovered at the rate (610 %), (27.7%), (27.7%), (2.8%) respectively.The recovery rate from Abattoir workers indicated that E.coli, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus and Campylobacter were (44.5 %) , (27.7 %) , (19.3 %) and (5.5 %) respectively.
