Abstract

This study deals with the structural and optical properties ofzinc oxide (ZnO) thin films prepared on glass substrates preheated to(623K) using chemical spray pyrolysis techniques. The effect of annealing with different temperature (623, 673, 723K) has beenstudied.XRD analysis reveals that all the prepared thin films werepolycrystalline (Hexagonal). Different peaks correspond to (101),(002), (100), (102) plane with a preferred orientation along (101)direction An increase in the intensity and the grain size with increasingthe annealing temperature, while strain and density of defects decreasewith increasing the annealing temperature of thin films prepared havebeen detected. The absorbance and transmittance spectra in the wavelengthrange (380-900 nm), have been recorded, the forbidden energy gap ofthe electronic transition was calculated, the value of the energy gap inthe direct allowed transition was (3.09-2.89 eV), and for the indirectallowed transition was (2.8-2.39 eV) where the energy gap is decreasedas the annealing temperature increased.
