Linguistic analysis of some of propaganda leaflets dropped by air on Iraq Between 1990 and 1991

Abstract

This study is trying to scan these publications - publications dropped by coalition forces in Iraq in the period between 1990 and 1991 during Operation Desert Storm - and then analyzed linguistically. Noteworthy that most of these publications have been reprinted in various forms in Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The publications being analyzed here in this study adopts flawed in design techniques, including: name names or titles, and gross generalizations (or gentle expressions). Projection (ie, turn the problem on another party be a person or a State or an institution) in order to influence the target audience. In any case, the propaganda publications developed by other parties within the conflict (such as Kuwait and Iraq) have undergone are other linguistic analysis scalpel. It is worth mentioning that this kind of publicity falls under the concept of psychological warfare, especially in this era known as the era of information, even though the first publication propaganda user is British troops, which was dropped on Germany in the First World War.
