Effect of sweet almond on blood picture in experimental infected mice with arthritis

Abstract

The current study was conduct to determine the effects of oral treatment of sweet Almond Suspension (SAS) on induced arthritis which was done by Incomplete Freund’s Adjuvant (IFA). Seventy mice, with close age and weight, were used in this study. They were equally divided in to 7 groups (10 mice per group). The first group served as negative control (non infected- non treated (NINTC). The second group was the positive control (infected non treated, (INTC) the third and fourth groups were those treated with 1.42 and 2.84 g/kg of SAS respectively. The fifth group was that treated with voltarin ® (ITV), while the sixth and seventh groups were those treated with the same closes of SAS but before infection (Prophylactic infected groups, PI1 and PI2). The blood picture that include total leukocytic count, packed cell volume (PCV), Haemoglobin, Neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, esonophiles and basophiles as parameters to comparison between groups. Blood picture study showed significant improvement in treated groups as hemoglobin and packed cell volume increased and leukocytes dcreased to normal levels while, lymphocyte increased and there was decreased in netrophiles and monocyte to normal levels in both treatment and prophylactic groups as compared to positive control group which showed a clear decreased in hemoglobin level, PCV and leukocytic count. The group which was treated with voltarine® after arthritis indication showed a decreased in hemoglobin level, PCV and leukocytic count and increased in netrophil and esinophile count and drop in lymphocyte and monocyte count.
