The Masculine and Feminine in the Quraanic citations in Taj Al-Aroos min Jawahir Al-Qamous Dictionary

Abstract

The present study deals with the investigation of the functional aspects made by Said Mohammad Murtadha Al-Zubaidy towards using the masculine and feminine structures in his book 'Taj al Aroos MIN Jawaher al Qamoos'. This study focuses on the use of these two aspects of language as reflected in the examples from Quran in his dictionary. His book is characterized by his dense use of Quranic pieces of evidence. The work also aims at disclosing Al-Zubaidy's approach to the adaptation of the masculine and feminine structures. Further, it attempts to reveal the function of disagreement between the subject, whether it is male or female, and verb inflection. Moreover, the study checks the original or primary sources that the writer has quoted as evidence in his investigation in an attempt to explain the reason behind the non-conformity of the occurrences at the level of gender as far as the Quranic texts are concerned.
