Study of Fruit Characters of Pummelo and Some Varieties of Grape Fruit and Citron Which are Cultivated in Iraq

Abstract

This study was conducted in a private orchard in Doura region- Baghdad through the 2011- 2012 growing season to know some physical and chemical properties for Pummelo and some varieties grape fruit and citron. The result showed superiority of grape fruit in physical Characters (fruit weigh, fruit juice weight, fruit skin thickness , seed number), So it gave highest average reached (1018gm ,220.10 gm , 1.52 cm ,78.20 seeds/ fruit ) successively ,while Marsh Var. gave the low average of fruit weight ,fruit juice weight reached (258.20 , 106.60)gm successively , while Duncan Var. had low fruit skin thickness reached (0.55 cm). Foster Var. gave less seeds numbers (2.01seeds/fruit).The chemical properties (T.S.S, acidity, vitamin C content ,It was found that Duncan var. had significant differences and gave highest T.S.S with 10.72% ,the cowpan citron var. gave less 7.50% Concerning acidity cowpan var. gave highest percentage of 4.41% ,while it sindi gave less percentage reached to 1.11%. Citron var. gave highest percentage of vitamin C content which reached to61.83 mg/100 gm juice , while Foster var. gave less percentage with 34.13 mg/100 gm juice.
