The Establishment of the Russian – American Company in the North Cost of the Pacific Ocean in 1799

Abstract

Russia was able to expand its influence to the northwest coast of the pacific Ocean after its success in the Beiring campaign in 1744 and the following campaigns, especially that of the merchant and explorer Shilkhof. That expansion was only possible after the establishment of the Russian -American company by the act of Caesar Bafil the first in 1799 which awarded the Russian merchants the right of monopoly of Fur trade in the northwest coast and prevented their competitors of the other foreign companies there.. According to that act, the company became responsible for applying Russian law in a way that achieved Russian interests and maintained areas of influence in the northwest Coast of the Pacific Ocean. Thus, the establishment of the Russian company was an inevitable necessity to maintain the Russian existence in the Northwest coast to an extent that that area came to be called Russian America till it was sold to the United States of America in 1867.Before that it was a Russian colony run by the Russian-American
