Assessment Of Anemia Among Female Students Attending Primary Health Center of Kirkuk

Abstract

Anemia is still a public health problem in all developing countries and it is regarded as a an important reason for high morbidity and mortality all over the world .The study was aimed to assess the anemia among female students attending the primary health center .Methods : A descriptive cross- sectional study was carried out in primary health center ( PHC) fo Kirkuk Technical Institute during the period from 1st February/ 2015 till the end of June 2015 after receiving official permission and a written consent was taken from each student before establishing the study .Different female students from all scientific departments of 1st and 2nd stages participated in the study . Seventy female students were selected randomly during their attendance to the PHC and a hemoglobin level was estimated .The results show that most of the study students are from second stage (47- 67.1%), living inside Kirkuk city (90%) aged between 18-20 (52- 74.2%) and they visited PHC for being ill (33- 47.1%) .The study indicated that (10- 43.5 %) of female students from first stage are complaining from mild anemia while (20- 42.5%) of second stage students having a moderate anemia .The study recommended that the government can provide iron-rich and nutritious foods for all residential students in their daily diets .
