Pulse Propagation in Presence of Stimulated Raman Scattering and Self-Steepening in Single Mode Fiber

Abstract

For short pulses (less than 5ps), the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) becomes more important in optical fibers. In this paper, the general propagation equation are derived in single mode fiber in presence of SRS and the self steepening (SS) phenomena that associated with SRS action. The propagation equation is solved numerically using the split-step Fourier method (SSFM) under the effects of Raman response function that estimated using the 10-Lorentezian model. The results explain that: the pulse shape, peak power, and the position of pulse center are changed under the effects of SS and SRS
