MEASUREMENT OF RADON LEVELS IN DWELLINGS IN SOME REGIONS OF SAHEL NENAWA DURING WINTER SEASON

Abstract

This study has been done by solid state nuclear track detectors used for measuringRadon concentration levels and the annual effective dose carried out in (18) houses insome regions in ( Sahel- Nenawa ) during winter season 2011 . Long term measurementof indoor radon concentration have been taken , using a previously calibrated passivediffusion dosimeters . The measurement of indoor radon concentration obtained inwinter for living rooms ranged between 40 Bq. & 59.6 Bq. with an averagevalue of 46.9 Bq. while in the bedrooms ranged between 50 Bq. to72.3Bq. with an average value of 61.1Bq. . The average value for all regions is53.5 Bq. .Also the annual effective dose ranged between 1.14mSv to1.66mSv with an average of 1.35 mSv . The data shows that the average value ofRadon concentration in bedrooms higher than of living rooms
