Optimism and Pessimism among Handicapped Children from Ajloun Area,and its relationship with Demographic Variables, the type and degree of handicap

Abstract

This study aims to reveal Optimism and Pessimism among a sample of handicapped children from Ajloun Governorate /Jordan, and its relationship to some demographic variables (gender, age)and the type and degree of handicap, for the purposes of the study, the researcher used Optimism and Pessimism Test which was done depending on Dember scale(1989)which is developed by Majdi Al Dusugi to be suitable for handicapped children,and it was found the indications of Validity and reliability of this scale, the sample consisted of 83 handicapped children (43 males &40 females)were selected randomly, and to analyze the data, it was found the arithmetic averages,standard deviations and value of (T),the multi variance analysis correlation coefficient.The results indicated that the level of Optimism and Pessimism between handicapped children was low, and there weren’t statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.05) at the degrees of the total Optimism and Pessimism and its dimensions between handicapped children regarding to age and gender,and there weren’t statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.05) at the degrees of the total Optimism and Pessimism and its dimensions between handicapped children regarding to the educational level of father and mother, there were statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.05) between the groups at the degrees of the total Optimism and Pessimism and its dimensions at the type of handicap regarding to the physical and auditory handicap,and there were statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.05) between the groups at the degrees of the total Optimism and Pessimism and its dimensions and the Pessimism dimension between the handicapped families at the type of handicap regarding to the simple handicap, the results were discussed in the light of the theoretical literature & previous studies, and some recommendations were suggested according to the results of the study
