دراسة التلوث البيئي الناتج عن الإشعاعات النووية في تربة ومياه محافظة كربلاء

Abstract

An extensive study on the determination of the radioactivity (238U,232Th and 40K) levels in soil and water of 22 samples collected from five locations in Karbala province, represented in the city center, north, south, east and west. Concentrations of radio nuclides in samples were determined by -ray spectrometer using sodium iodide NaI(Tl) detector. The average soil radionuclides concentrations of Karbala province were within the worldwide range. Also, a solid state nuclear track detector SSNTD (CR-39) was used to measure the radon concentration as well as exhalation rate for water samples. The results have shown that the average radon concentration of water samples is (3.380 Bq m3), which is within the limits recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
