Character Construction in Ibn Shohaid's 'Al-Tawaba and Zawaba' Thesis

Abstract

AbstractThe current research aims at reading Ibn Shohaid's ' 'Al-Tawaba and Zawaba' thesis focusing on its character construction by shedding light on the basic techniques of introducing and constructing these characters since most of them are non-human entities. The work, thus, discusses these techniques. The research has found that these figures are introduced at two levels: physically and spiritually. Also they are presented as having located in strange places, not available on this planet. The study also concentrates on the dialogical interaction between those characters which is a useful narrative technique in presenting the non-real characters. The dialogue is the dominant aspect in this story. The research also brings into prominence the importance of character presentation when depending on this technique and how it is proven to be effective in this story, the result is that this piece of narrative is considered nowadays as one of great works in Arabic literature.
