The Effect of Wax’s Model in Acquiring Historical Concepts and Developing Historical Thinking among the Students of the First Intermediate Class

Abstract

This study aims at investigating The Effect of Wax’s Model in Acquiring Historical Concepts and Developing Historical Thinking among the Students of the First Intermediate Class. The researcher used an experimental design with partial control and a pretest and a posttest. He chose section C to represent the experimental group that studies according to Wax model. Section A represented the control group that study according to the traditional method. There were 68 students with 34 student in each section. The two sections were equalized in the variables of age, intelligence, and score of previous year. The researcher prepared the two assessment tools: historical concept test, and historical thinking test. The validity and reliability of the tools were verified. The researcher used t-test to process the data. The results showed that the experimental group which studied according to Wax model in acquiring historical concepts and historical thinking skills prevailed. It is recommended to adopt this model in teaching.
