Academic Atychiphobia and its Relation with Memorization Habits among the Students of Preparatory Stage

Abstract

Academic atychiphobia happens among students when they experience anxiety and fear during evaluation situations and losing the attention of the people they care about ,especially, parents as a result of failure to give them the academic level that they ask for. Students face continuous pressure caused by memorization, preparation to exams, fear of academic future. Academic atychiphobia is one of those pressures. Adolescence is apparently one of the general and important topics of interest among the community ,especially, psychologists and educators. Atychiphobia can positively or negatively affect the human will and motivation. Its effect can reach to mental illness that needs treatment. The weak attainment of the students is sometimes not attributed to intelligence level or personality defects. It is more related to the lack of correct memorization habits.The present study aims at investigating the correlation between academic atychiphobia and memorization habits among the students of preparatory stage. This study was limited to the fifth literary grade of morning classes in the center of Baqubah city under the Directorate of Education in Diyala in the academic year 2017-2018. The sample of the study consisted of 200 students chosen randomly. The researcher used Academic atychiphobia scale (Abbas 2014) and memorization habits scale (Al Qassabi 2010) after applying their psychometric properties. The researcher used Pearson correlation coefficient and T test for single sample to extract the study results. The results showed that there is a positive correlation between academic atychiphobia and memorization habits. In the light of the results several recommendations and suggestions were presented
