Abstract

The research paper aims at identifying the importance of the geopolitical and geo-economic factors of Turkey and their contribution in making Ankara a member in the EU. Turkish-EU relation are dated back to come than fifty years as turkey has played a vital role in the European security system in the period following WWII. Its huge economic energy made it a real partner to the EU as well as a safe route of energy resources transiting from the Middle e East and Caucasia to European Markets. Moreover, the sofa power of Turkey contributes in supporting vital interests of EU countries in the region, for its Islamic/secular, cultural and economic models contribute in the welfare and stability of the unsettled European neighborhood, which is regarded a strategic goal for EU countries. These facts, in addition to US diplomacy, are guaranteeing the membership of Turkey in the EU, especially with the coming of the AKP to govern Turkey in 2002 which has formed a new strategy from its strategic depth in the region.
