Semantic Indications of Colors in Decorative Calligraphy

Abstract

An enormous shift in route of colors from its current state to an abstract status, leads to the appearance of an abundant product, in contrast to many designing trends that had reached us across different periods and places. This was such a rich outcome for the practical dimension of the semantic character of the color in calligraphy and ornamentation, which embodied a strong will and a sophisticated tendency to decorate achievements of relevant calligraphy fonts in their different kinds, types and models. Section one includes the research problem and the research significance, highlighting the importance of research as the theme of color indication in the painting of decorative calligraphy has not been addressed before as far as the researcher, scholars and even authors know. The research objectives: the research goal can be achieved through the following steps: constructing semantic designs of color through making use of form and content in decorative achievements of calligraphy. The research limits: The research is determined within the following dimensions: -Dimension of subject matter (theme) / color denotations in decorative achievements of calligraphy. - Spatial dimension / Iran-Temporal dimension is (981- 1315 A.H.).Additionally, this section covers the terms definitions as well. Second section addresses number of aspects like (color, semantic function of color, technical foundations and their role in semantic function of color, previous studies, and discussion of previous studies). Section three consists of (research procedures, research community and research sample, references of data collection, research method, research instrument and validity). Section four contains the analysis of selected forms of calligraphy and outcomes. The study approved that across past centuries, color indication was associated with meanings and symbols that made use of the power of their symbolic influence in correlation between heaven and earth. The findings of this research confirm the predominance of blue and gold colors in all research samples, which have a clearly semantic role in any artistic work.The research recommendation, the researcher states that it is quite important to teach semantic indications of colors in decorative achievements of calligraphy fonts in written curricula and courses in which the lettering and decoration form a backbone. However, this research proposed to study the color indications in decorative achievements of calligraphy from different perspectives.
