The Program of economic reform and its impact on the economic situation in Turkey 1980-1983

Abstract

This study aims to the economic reform program prepared by Turkut Ozal in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund‚ which was announced on 24 January 1980 by the Turkish government‚ which included a package of measures to deal with the deteriorating economic situation in Turkey. The importance of the research is that the study was a very important issue. During the 1970s‚ Turkey suffered a major deterioration in is political and economic conditions. The poor economic situation in Turkey during that period‚ which was reflected in the low rates of economic growth and the increase in the value of the public debt‚ And the low exchange rate of the Turkish lira against the US dollar‚ has greatly affected the political situation in it‚ so this program came in an attempt by the government of Prime Minister Suleiman Demirel‚ to remedy the economic collapse and try to implement a comprehensive plan for economic reform. The research reached a number of important results. The first of these conclusions is that without the implementation of the decisions of the January 24‚ 1980 reform program‚ Turkey would have experienced economic collapse and thus exacerbate the political crisis‚ but the economic reform program succeeded in achieving its goals. The problems that the Turkish economy suffered‚ which reflected positively on the nature of the political landscape in Turkey‚ as the eighties witnessed political stability‚ as well as Turkeys boom in economic growth rates.
