Effect of Emitters' discharge and Irrigation water salinity on horizontally and vertically distribution of moisture in a loamy soil

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out to study the effect of emitters' discharge and irrigation water salinity on horizontally and vertically distribution for moisture in a loamy soil. The experiment included two factors: first, the salinity of water irrigation (q) at two quality with four systems namely; irrigation with river water only (qr) (Ec=1.17 ds.m ̄ ¹). Irrigation with saline water only (qs) (Ec=4 ds.m ̄ ¹) , one irrigation with river water followed by one with saline water and so on to the end of the growth season , and one irrigation with river water followed by two irrigations with saline water and so on to the end of the growth season. Second discharge of emitters (d)which included two levels: using emitters with 3.94 L. hr ̄ ¹ actual discharge (d4) , and emitters with 7.88 L. hr ̄ ¹ actual discharge. The treatments were distributed as a factorial experiment in three replicates according to randomized complete block design. Results showed that moisture content increased near the emitters and decreased horizontally and vertically as going away from the emitters for all the treatments. Also the water content decreased in soil profile with progress of growth stages for all treatments. Increasing each of emitter discharge from 3.94 to 7.88 L. hr ̄ ¹ and the percent of saline water in irrigation from 0 , 50 , 66 , and 100% contributed in lowering the moisture content at distance and depths were studied. The lowering percent found to be proportional with progress of growth stages.
