Effect of Spraying Nitrogen, Potassium and Calcium on Growth and Yield of Muskmelon

Abstract

An experiments were conducted at the field of the Dept. of Hort. Coll. of Agric. Univ. of Baghdad, during the spring season of 2007 and 2008, to study the effect of spraying some nutrient elements(N, K, Ca) on growth and yield of Muskmelon. Spraying urea (46%N) (0, 3000) mg N/L, potassium sulphate (41%K) (0, 2500, 5000) mg K/L. and Calcium chelated (9% Ca) (0, 400, 800) mg Ca/L.The plant were sprayed twice at fruit set and 15 days after the first spray. R.C.B.D. as factorial experiment was adapted with three replicate. Results showed that spraying of N1 was superior in increasing leaf area (5.02, 4.50 M2), K2(5.32, 4.55 M2) and C1(5.29, 4.36 M2) compared with control, for the two seasons respectively. Also spraying of N1 was superior in increasing of fruit weight (3.39, 3.25 kg), K1(3.45, 3.29kg) and C1(3.39, 3.28kg) compared with control, for the two seasons respectively. Spraying of N1 was superior in increasing plant yield (10.27, 9.74 kg), K1(10.73, 9.70kg)and C1(10.51, 10.19 kg) compared with control N0(9.34, 9.30 kg), K0 (9.83, 9.48 kg) and C0 (10.10, 9.38 kg) for the two seasons respectively.
