Measurement of alpha particles concentration in building material samples by using the nuclear track detector (CR-39)

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to find the alpha particle concentrations emitters from twelve building material samples for four kinds (brick , sand , gravel and cement) obtained from different Iraqi governorates by using alpha particle-emitters registrations which are emitted from alpha particles in (CR-39) nuclear track detectorThe results obtained have shown that ,the highest average alpha particles concentration in building material samples was found in a gravel sample, (Salahaddin origin), which was (2.15 ppm). While the lowest average alpha particles concentration in building material a samples was found in a cement sample,( Anbar origin) ,which was (0.49 ppm) . The present results show that the alpha particles concentrations in all building material samples studied (brick ,cement, gravel and sand) are below the allowed limit given by the (International Commission of Radiation Protection) agency (ICRP).
