Study on level of zinc in local and Shammi goats in Baghdad province

Abstract

Because of the importance of zinc mineral in goat and effect of some animal characteristics as breed and physiological state on the zinc deficiency level, 110 blood samples were collected from different regions of Baghdad province. These samples were obtained from local and Shammi goat breeds experiencing nutritional deficiency, as evidenced by clinical examination. Biochemical test results to the zinc mineral showed the mean of female local goat 0.38 ±0.04 µg/ml, Shammi female goat 0.20 ±0.04 µg/ml, the mean of zinc mineral in pregnant female goat 0.16±0.01 µg/ml, in non-pregnant female goat 0.35±0.03 µg/ml. While the mean of zinc in group of local breed male and non-pregnant female 0.40±0.03 µg/ml, the mean in Shammi breed male and non-pregnant female 0.26±0.03 µg/ml. The mean of zinc mineral in male group (local and Shammi breed) is 0.36±0.05, the mean in female goat group (local and Shammi breed) was 0.35±0.03 µg/ml. Significant difference with level (p<0.05) was showed between different zinc means of Shammi and local female breed, also between pregnant and non-pregnant females and between male and female of two breeds. While no significant difference showed to the gender on the zinc level between male and female group. From this we can deduce the breed and physiological state of female goat effect on the level of zinc a significantly.
