دراسة الفعالية ضد المايكروبية لمستخلصات أوراق وثمار نبات الوذانية Withania somnifera واستخدام مستخلصات نبات الوذانية كوسط محلي لنمو الاعفان

Abstract

The plant Withania somnifera grows wildly in the middle and southern of Iraq locally named Sam – Al ferakh. In this study the antimicrobial activity of three different plant extract (alcoholic extract 80%, aqueous cold extract and direct macerate with physiological saline) was tested against some gram positive and gram negative bacteria and also against some moulds and yeast. The results shown that efficient method of extract was alcoholic extracts of the leaves and the berries of Withania plant from other extract methods that are used in this study .The highest antibacterial activity was found in the alcoholic extracts of the plant leaves agains the gram positive bacteria (Staphyloccocus aureus ,Streptoccocus pyogenes ,Streptocoocus pneumoniae ,Bacillus subtilis) in inhibition diameter ( 25,23,24,22)mm in sequency at 500 mgml, while one isolate of gram negative bacteria E.coli did showed antagonistic effected at concentration 500 mgml in inhibition diameter 27 mm . The berries extract of the plant showed effected at the highest concentration (250,500) mg/ml against gram positive and gram negative bacteria . The cold leaves extract showed antibacterial activity at the highest concentration, while the direct macerate in physiological saline was inactive. None of the above mentioned extracts showed any antimicrobial activity against the tested fungus. The study included also the possibility of using extract of the leaves and the berries as a media for growth of the moulds specially the berries media was characterized in giving results similar and even better than PDA and YMA for growth of the tested moulds. Therefore it might be possible to be used as a natural media for such purpose.
