Strategic dimensions of international sanctions imposed on Iran and its possible ramifications

Abstract

Iran is under the first moment of the Islamic revolution in 1979 and so far (2010) for the two types of sanctions: Unilateral U.S. sanctions, imposed under a set of laws, regulations and executive orders U.S.. And international sanctions by the United Nations and through the four decisions issued by the UN Security Council against Iran under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations over its nuclear program, was the latest resolution (1929), which was released in June 2010. One of the most important goals of successive U.S. administrations to impose sanctions on Iran, is the impact on Iran's foreign policy, and minimize regional ambitions and push towards the adoption of policies more realistic and moderate than the American view. Although these sanctions have not achieved so far the desired results, but it is still the most appropriate option for Washington in the current stage, to rearrange its cards on both internal and external, as a prelude to "take further steps may be more severe in the future.
