Violence Expressions in Al-Jawahiri’s poetry

Abstract

The circumstances that Al-Jawahiri witnessed have sharpened the ways his poetry looks. This is very clear in the poems that are characterized by their violent images in talking to other people. He lived in a period of time when Iraqi people suffered a lot and this is very clear in his revolutionary poetry. In these poems he calls upon people to lift up injustice and to obtain a suitable life for them. This is adopted through the revolutionary spirit and the special style of his poetry. The vocabulary he uses is very familiar , simple and free from vagueness. The words he uses express his violent style in describing his poetic condition. All the images of violence he adopted express a mental state through the verbs he used. This reflects the bitterness he felt towards the state of Iraqi people who were suffering from injustice.
