Agricultural reality of AbulKhasib district between (1979 - 2012) A comparative study in agricultural geography

Abstract

This research aims to study the agricultural status of Abulkhasib District on temporal and spatial dimensions.With respect to the first:Comperingthe agricultural situation before the Iraqi-Iranian Warwhich were thriving.Then took rise gradually slow till 2003.Finally,since the change of government to the present time, in terms of cropstypes,theirproduction,andthe cultivated areas.As for the spatial situation: the study focus on the geographical elements,vis.natural and human facters that influnces the cultivated areas and their production.The research showed that the agricultural areas are irrigated by tide and ebb water which takes place in Shatt Alarb and intervention these areas through uniqe canals net.The arable lands were(60000) and the cultivated areas formed 75% of them, the date palms a total of (2000000) and the production was (750000)ton of the dates before the War.As for the current situation,the deterioration is continuing . Thus the date palms total of (820000) and the cultivated areas are shrunk to (200000) donem,and the dates total of (15000)ton.These findings was due to the following factors:-Farmersmaigrationdue to the War.-Increasing of soil salinity.-High irrigation water salinity.-Urban sprawl on the agricultural lands.-Impacts of the military operations on cultivated areas.
