The reality of the use of chemical fertilizer and its impact on agricultural production in Iraq and assess the demand for the period (2015 - 2022)

Abstract:Despite the importance of fertilizer, chemicals and uses large-scale in the agricultural field and at the global level on according to soil type and quality of agricultural crops, but the agricultural sector in Iraq suffers from a significant lack of them, as the average annual use of fertilizer chemical in Iraq about (835)thousand tonnes per annum for the period (1992-2001), with a deficit averaging (1025) thousand tons per year, a total of up to (55%) of the actual needs of the agricultural sector of chemical fertilizer on according to the global average, which determines the need for per hectare of farmland (500) kg of fertilizer, chemical, and then dropped the use of fertilizers to 318 thousand tons per year on average for the period (2002 - 2009) to increase the amount of the deficit to about (85%) of the need of the agricultural sector fertilizer chemicals, due to the continuing decline in the production of fertilizer locally, as well as lower imported quantities and high prices after the lifting of government subsidies, which reflected negatively on agricultural production quantity and quality. This has been estimated actual need for fertilizer chemical in Iraq about (2304) thousand tons / year on average, for the period (2015-2022), which means that there are investment opportunities task can be state-of-activated to take effective measures, in coordination with the private sector and support, to provide the elements of production, filling the need for local ones, in order to increase agricultural production and improve the quality of support to national food security.
