Abstract

Geopotential height and potential temperature are both considered to have an important effect on the climate. Depending on these two variables relating with other variables and air phenomenon. Hence, it draw many international studies attention. So this study aims to explain the relation between these two variables and to observe their change during the study period in Baghdad precisely. It has been shown through the study that at 500 mb[millibar] level the relation between these two variables is inverse mostly in all months except for march, April and June whereas it is direct in the last two decades. While at 1000 mb level the relation is inverse in winter whereas it is direct in summer in Baghdad . through observing the change in the annual rates for both variables, as it is found that in 500 mb level the temperature change in constant while these the geopotential height change is increasing through the secant part of the last decade. In the 1000 mb level the geopotential height is decreasing while temperature is increasing. So we can say the theoretical relation between these two variables can be proved by annual rates hence the relation between them is direct annually not monthly.
