The Effectiveness of Using Self-Instruction Strategy on the Acquisition of Orthography Skills of Second Grade Students

Abstract

The research aimed at describing Self-Instruction strategy and exploring its effectiveness on the acquisition of orthography skills of second graders. As the research presents all pertinent knowledge on the core point, it fulfills the research-based procedures through adopting an experimental approach. The sample of the research included two groups: experimental (69 student) and controlled (69 students) as the teacher of the course was asked to train the experimental group to use the self-instruction strategy which will facilitate their acquisition of orthography skills whereas the controlled group were trained through traditional class instruction. Both groups were assigned a dictation text to measure their mastery skills. Findings of the research indicated a remarkable effectiveness and valid assumptions of the proposed strategy which are thoroughly discussed in the research.Such findings put strong recommendations to develop a professional program on self-Instruction where teachers of beginning elementary levels are trained to adopt the strategy.
