The Iraqi Journal of Applied Physics (IJAP) is a peer reviewed journal of high quality devoted to the publication of original research papers from applied physics and their broad range of applications. IJAP publishes quality original research papers, comprehensive review articles, survey articles, book reviews, dissertation abstracts in physics and its applications in the broadest sense. It is intended that the journal may act as an interdisciplinary forum for Physics and its applications. Innovative applications and material that brings together diverse areas of Physics are particularly welcome. Review articles in selected areas are published from time to time. It aims to disseminate knowledge; provide a learned reference in the field; and establish channels of communication between academic and research experts, policy makers and executives in industry, commerce and investment institutions. Abstract

The oxide dispersion strengthened copper alloys are attractive due to their excellent combination of thermal and electrical conductivities, high-temperature strength and microstructure stability. However, the state-of-art to fabrication of them was the internal oxidation (IO) process. In the paper, alumina dispersion strengthened copper (ADSC) powders of nominal composition of Cu-2.5vol%Al2O3 were produced by reaction milling (RM) process which was an in-situ gas-solid reaction process. The bulk ADSC alloys for electrical and mechanical properties investigation were obtained by sintering and thereafter hot extrusion. After the hot consolidation processes, the fully densified powder compacts can be obtained.

Abstract

This paper presents a scheme for Bit error rate (BER) testing in FPGAs. BER characteristic is one of the basic measures of the performance of any digital communication system. BER is evaluated using Monte-Carlo simulations which are very time-consuming. The proposed implementation has a Random number generator as data source. Then the data is modulated and demodulated, after that the data feds to the comparator which calculates the number of errors by comparing it with the transmitted bits.

Influence of Magnetic Nitrogen Plasma Functionalization of High Density Polycarbonate

Abstract

Low pressure nitrogen plasma has been used to modify surface properties of polycarbonate membrane. Evaluation of surface morphology changes has been carried out using atomic force microscopy (AFM). To study surface topography changes related to etching effect, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been carried out. The results show a considerable improvement in surface roughness, SEM and AFM analyses show remarkable changes in surface topography as a consequence of the plasma-etching mechanism. The increasing of optical transparency of the plasma treated membranes was observed from UV-visible spectroscopy. The refractive index value for treated films has been decreased as observed from laser ellipsometry measurement. Furthermore, the changes in chemical bonds for polymer films were studied. It is found that plasma treatment can change chemical structure of polymer surfaces partially.

One-Dimension Simulation of Plasma Flow in the Cylindrical Hall Thruster

Abstract

One-dimension (1D) magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) model is employed to study physics of the acceleration process inside the cylindrical Hall thruster is independently designed. And some influencing factors which are the plasma ionization, neutralization, collision, Bohm diffusion as well as anode sheath .etc are considered. Using the Runge-Kutta method obtains the distributions of the speed, ion number density, temperature .The ion number density increases, but near exit drops and the neutral number density gradually reduces in the channel. The ion speed reaches the maximum at exit and the electron velocity has the great gradient distribution in the downriver. These distributions are relevant with electromagnetic distribution, collision and electronic impedance. Finally make the analysis the connection between electron temperature distribution and velocity as well as magnetic field.

Abstract

In this paper, a method to improve the security level of advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm was proposed. The advanced encryption standard algorithm is widely accepted due to its strong encryption, complex processing and its resistance to Brute-force attack. The proposed algorithm is implemented on the original AES. The proposed algorithm increases the complexity of encryption process and makes it very difficult to decrypt the plaintext without using correct encryption key.
