The Iraqi Journal of Applied Physics (IJAP) is a peer reviewed journal of high quality devoted to the publication of original research papers from applied physics and their broad range of applications. IJAP publishes quality original research papers, comprehensive review articles, survey articles, book reviews, dissertation abstracts in physics and its applications in the broadest sense. It is intended that the journal may act as an interdisciplinary forum for Physics and its applications. Innovative applications and material that brings together diverse areas of Physics are particularly welcome. Review articles in selected areas are published from time to time. It aims to disseminate knowledge; provide a learned reference in the field; and establish channels of communication between academic and research experts, policy makers and executives in industry, commerce and investment institutions. Silicon Dioxide Nanostructures-Coated External Cavity for Gain Enhancement of Rhodamine B Lasing Dye

Abstract

In this work, nanostructured silicon dioxide films were deposited by closed-field unbalanced dc magnetron sputtering technique on two sides of quartz cells containing Rhodamine B dye dissolved in ethanol with 10-5 M concentration as a random gain medium. The preparation conditions were optimized to prepare highly pure SiO2 nanostructures with a minimum particle size of about 20nm. The effect of SiO2 films as external cavity for the random gain medium was determined by the laser-induced fluorescence of this medium and an increase of about 200% in intensity was observed after the deposition of nanostructured SiO2 thin films on two sides of the dye cell.

Design of Low-Cost Multi-Waveforms Signal Generator Using Operational Amplifier

Abstract

Function signal generator has a wide range of applications in electronic measurement and teaching. Yet, many of the trading tests signal generators are bulky and expensive. Furthermore, many types of them are in a fixed operating mode with limited utilized signals. The aim of this research paper is to design a multi-functional, multi-waveform with high accuracy economic signal generator based on operational amplifier, which is able to provide waveforms that are commonly used in electronics experiments. The circuit is simulated in Multisim software, and the hardware circuit is validated. The results show that using Multisim simulation results are basically consistent with the hardware circuit. The output value of the waveforms of the signal generator are square, triangle, sine wave with voltage range of (0-14 V) and output frequency range of (50 Hz-3.1 kHz). The signal generator has simple, practical, low cost features and the important application value.

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a frequency selective surface (FSS) as a mechanism to reduce the mutual coupling between the closely spaced circular patch microstrip antennas operating at 5.2 GHz. The results show that S12 has been reduced to about -36 dB, in comparing without using FSS array were -16 dB.

Structural and Surface Characteristics of Cd0.9Sb0.1Se Thin Films Prepared by Thermal Evaporation

Abstract

In this work, thin films of Cd0.9Sb0.1Se were successfully deposited on glass substrates by thermal evaporation method at room temperature. The Cd1-xSbxSe alloy composed of highly-pure Cd, Sb and Se samples was prepared with x=0.1 by melting method in a tube furnace at 900°C. The structural and surface characteristics of these thin films were studied by the x-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy to determine their dependencies on film thickness. These films were amorphous and the grain size as well as the surface roughness was increasing with film thickness. The energy band gap was decreased from 2.6 to 2.15 eV with increasing film thickness from 150 to 450 nm. These structures are efficient candidates for some applications such as quantum devices.

Abstract

In this work, a multiple coded frame temporal processing is proposed as a protocol to enhance the digital image processing in digital communications systems. This protocol is based on the dissembling of visual data packages into multiple coded frames and transmitting them over secured temporal route. Data transfer involves the reliable delivery of transparent data between the users. All data are delivered in sequence with no duplication or missing parts Three main parameters were controlled in order to examine the proposed protocol and its applicability to enhance the quality of digital image at the reception stage.
