Mental Health Assessment: A Comparison between Different Completely Edentulous and Dentate Patients

Abstract

Aims: To aid the dentist, in a more precise method for the mental health assessment of edentulous patients, and isolates those who refuse complete denture wearing for psychological reasons. Materialsand methods: The study was conducted during the period from July 2004 to November 2005. One hundred members with especial criteria were agreed to participate in this study. They were collectedrandomly from Dental College of Mosul University and Dental Health Center at Mosul city. The members were asked to answer the Mental Health Questionnaires. Results: It was found that mentalhealth score decreased with females especially who refused the prosthodontic treatment, also groups with low educational and financial levels at same group. Members that received their prosthodontictreatment at the Dental Collage with age between (55–64) years old seamed to be achieved a highestlevel within the Mental Health Scale. Finally the members with high anxiety tendency, showed less mental health scores. Conclusions: The completely edentulous who refused the prosthodontic treatment, especially females, low educational and financial groups achieved the minimum scores with Mental Health Scale.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the performance of health workers in respect to the acute respiratory infections (ARI) & acute diarrhea in <5 children.Setting: Rural health centers in 11 districts in the reform project in Republic of Yemen.Method: Across sectional study involving 312 cases of ARI & diarrhea. Data were collected through direct observation using WHO algorithm for integrated management of child illness. Performance score was considered as: well done mean ± ISD or poor mean – ISD fair in between sides of SD according to correct element performed Results: The mean score of workers had fair performance 30.4 ± 3.5, 89.4% of workers had fair performance 6.1% well done & 4.5% poor. The performance was better among in workers who received training courses in ARI/ Ad management. There was a decline in performance skills with time lapse after training. There was a high percentage of irrational use of drugs irrespective of the. H workers categoryConclusion: There is a need for promoting health workers efficiency in ARI/ diarrhea management through basic training, refreshing courses & supportive supervisionKeywords: Quality, assessment, performance, health workers

الهدف تقييم اداء العاملين الصحية فيما يتعلق بمعاملة الاطفال تحت سن الخامسة المصابين بالالتهاب الرئوية والاسهال.مكان العمل:- المراكز الصحية الريفية في 11 منطقة المشمولة بمشروع الاصلاح في جمهورية اليمنطريقة العمل:- دراسة مقطعية شملت 312 طفل مريض بالالتهاب الرئوية والاسهال. واعتمدت طريقة الملاحظة المباشرة لاداء الطبيب او المساعدين الطبيين اثناء فحص المريض وتسجيل الملاحظات وحسب الجدول المعتمد من قبل منظمة الصحة العاملية للرعاية الشاملة للطفل المريض وقد قسمت جودة الاداء الى ثلاث فئات جيدة, مقبولة, وسيئة حسب النقاط الصحية التي تؤديها العامل الصحي في تعامله مع الطفل.النتائج:- كان متوسط الاداء الحسابي(3,04± 3,5 ) وكان الاداء عموما لا ئقا في ( 89,4%) مع نسبه اداء جيدة عند (1,6%) وضعيفة عند(5,4%) من العاملين, وقد كان الاداء احسن بين من تلقوا دورات تدريبية في مجال معالجة حالات التهاب الجهاز التنفسي والاسهال بين الاطفال. وكان هناك تدهور في مستوى الاداء بمرور الوقت بين العامـلين.اظهرت الدراسة ان نسبة كبيرة من الادوية وصفت بطريقة غير رشيدة مثلا (91%) للمضادات الحيوية و (90,3%) من الادوية المرضية الاخرى.الاستنتاج:- هناك حاجة لرفع مستوى اداء العاملين الصحيين في كيفية معالجة الامراض التنفسية الحادة والاسهال من خلال التدريب الاساس , الدورات التنشيطية والاشراف العام الفاعل.

Salivary Protein Components and Oral Health in Patients Undergoing Therapy with Beta Adrenegic Agonist and Antagonist

Abstract

Aims: To study the effect of Beta–adrenergic agonist (salbutamol) and Beta adrenergic antagonist (atenolol) on salivary protein concentration and to study relation between salivary protein concentrationand oral health. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out on 45 individuals; 15 individuals of them were apparently healthy with no history of systemic diseases and represent a control group, thesecond group which comprised 15 subjects were given adrenergic agonist drug (salbutamol) for treatment of asthma, and third group (15 individuals) were given adrenegic antagonist drug (atenolol) fortreatment of hypertension. subjects were selected from the out patients attending Oral Surgery Department, College of Dentistry, University of Mosul. The samples of saliva were collected using spittingmethod and oral hygiene index simplified was recorded for each individual and total protein concentration of these saliva samples were determined. Its relation to oral health was measured accordingto simplified oral hygiene index by Greene and Vermillion. Results: The results of this study revealed that in all study groups, significant differences were present for both salivary protein concentration andoral health scores and there is correlation between salivary protein concentration and oral health in patients receiving atenolol. Conclusions: Chronic treatment with adrenergic agonist and antagonist drugs, resulted in changes in salivary protein concentration and those will affect the oral health of patients treated by these drugs.

يهدف البحث إلى تقييم الوضع الصحي في الوطن العربي طبقاً لمفاهيم الجغرافيا السياسية، في محاولة للكشف عن مواطن الخلل والمشكلات التي يعاني منها الأمن الصحي العربي، واستشراف المستقبل, ومحاولة تغيير هذه الصورة من خلال الخيارات المطروحة. وقد انتهى البحث إلى عدة استنتاجات من أهمية التركيز على اعتماد التنمية المستدامة على المستويين القطري والقومي ومن خلال العمل العربي المشترك لتعظيم الوفورات الاقتصادية والمجتمعية الناجمة.
