Study the Effect of Using Microwave Radiation and H-Donors on Improving Heavy Oil

Abstract

The present research has investigated the effect of microwave energy on improving the flow properties of heavy crude oil. The fragmentation of crude oil molecules was carried out with and without using 1 and 10 wt. % concentration of various types of H-donors like tetralin, cyclohexane, and naphtha. Microwave power of 320, 385, and 540 W and radiation time 1-9 min, and temperature were studied. The kinematic viscosity and asphaltene content were measured for evaluation the improving of heavy crude oil. Results show that viscosity of crude oil decreased with increase H-donor concentration, a maximum percentage of viscosity reduction was10.63 % for tetralin at 6 min radiation time, while 8.67%, and 7.34% for cyclohexane and naphtha at 4 min respectively. The high H-donor polarity is the high viscosity reduction. The asphaltenes content of crude oil was decreased during microwave treatment process, a maximum percentage of reduction was 39.73% for tetralin at 6 min radiation time, while 34.40% and 46.29 % for cyclohexane and naphtha at 4 min respectively. The viscosity of crude oil was decreased with asphaltenes content decrease. The temperature of a crude oil was varied during the microwave treatment and it was depended on radiation time and radiation power and H-donor type. The best reduction of crude oil viscosity and asphaltenes content was achieved at a moderate radiation power385 W.

Abstract

AbstractThe use of air conditioning-water heating hybrid system for heating, cooling and hot water ofbuildings, has significantly importance for energy saving. It has been proposed a system to recoverthe waste heat of refrigerant after leaving the air conditioning system condenser in the heating modeand the waste heat of refrigerant after leaving the air conditioning system compressor in the coolingmode to heat water for domestics or other needs. Shell and tube heat exchanger has been designed asa refrigerant-to-water heat exchanger located between the condenser and the expansion valve in theheating mode and between the compressor and the condenser in the cooling mode. The simulationprogram of heat exchanger has been built by using (MATLAP) in order to determining the heattransfer parameters and the temperature difference between the inlet cold water and outlet hot water,the results show that the effectiveness decrease with increase of water mass flow rate, while increasewith increase of tube length. As the tube length (15) m, the outlet hot water temperature from heatexchanger is (60.94) °C, for water mass flow rate (0.15) kg/s, and this value decrease exponentiallyand reach to about (7.528) °C, for water mass flow rate (2) kg/s, while for tube length (5) m, thesevalues ranging between (43.92) °C, to (1.234) °C, respectively.

Abstract

This research includes the evaluation of economic feasibilities based on the Iraqi’s market cost by using three different types of central heating systems in a residential villa located in Duhok city / Iraq. It also compares between modern and conventional central heating systems. A life cycle cost analysis based on detailed heating and operation load profiles considered in this work. Initial, running and maintenance costs for three central heating systems examined for fifteen years as a working period. The used systems in this study were; modern central heating system (heat pump water heater system) and conventional central heating system (fuel oil hot water boiler system and electric hot water boiler system). Transfer function method with hourly analysis program platform (HAP4.9) used for estimation the heating loads within each zone of the project. The proposed technique of modern central heating system found to be more efficient for thermal and economic efficiencies and it uses an environmentally friendly refrigerant such as (R410A). It also works efficiently in severe cold climate with low temperature of (-20°C) in winter season. The results shows that the heat pump water heater central heating system is most efficient system, this system has provided an energy saving range up to 57.5% compared with electric hot water boiler system and 70.6% compared with fuel oil hot water boiler system.

Abstract

In this paper, it is present a model to simulate Four-wave mixing in quantum dot semiconductor optical amplifier, taking into account the influence of carrier heating at reservoir. The numerical calculations show that; the carrier heating relaxation at reservoir demonstrates a significant impact on excited state occupation probability, and opposite occurs with ground state. Also, the conversion efficiency is shown a good match with experiment data.
