Abstract

Abstract Although retrolisthesis is not a well-known condition by many medical specialists dealing with back problems and it has been regarded as a radiological incidental finding with no clinical significance, a growing prove is now evolving stating that retrolisthesis could be a cause of many backache complaints and a sequelae of an altered spine biomechanics. Objectives: to study and analyze the various biomechanical characteristics of retrolisthesis and its relationship with various radiological parameters of the lumbar spine and other patient’s factors. Patients and Method: Forty patients, twenty six males, and fourteen females with an age range from 40–66 years with radiological evidence of significant lumbar spine retrolisthesis (slip > 3 millimeters) were evaluated clinically and radiologically by plain radiography and MRI in Basra General Hospital and Ibn AL-Bittar Private Hospital, during the period from the 1st of August 2014 to the 1st of March 2015. After a thorough history and physical examination, various radiological parameters were obtained including the lumbar lordosis, sacral slop, pelvic incidence, pelvic tilt, all those measurements were done digitally. A statistical analysis was made via IBM SPSS ver.17 and the results were compared with that of similar studies. Results: The retrolisthesis was found to be more common with more slip distance in males than in females, males=26 (65%), females=14 (35%), P-value=0.026, the mean of slip in mm in males was (4.002) and in females was (3.71). The patients had a mean BMI equal to (26.025= overweight). The most common level at which retrolisthesis occur in this study was the L5-S1 (40%) then L4-L5 (22.5%).All the radiological parameters (the lumbar lordosis, sacral slop, pelvic incidence, and pelvic tilt) were lower than the known normal values in healthy subjects. Conclusion: It seems that retrolisthesis is not just an incidental finding, it may be a kind of a compensatory reaction for an abnormal spine biomechanics. The males are affected more frequently than females with a more slip distance. The L5-S1 followed by the L4-L5 are the most common sites in both sexes. The degenerative spinal disease is the main cause of retrolisthesis in all patient’s groups regardless of sex or age.

Abstract

Abstract: Association rules are typically used to describe what items are frequently bought together. One could also use them in web usage mining to describe the pages that are often visited together .The goal of web usage mining is to extract useful knowledge from the data that web servers store about the behaviour of the customers. In this paper, we introduce an extension to association rules by the introduction of time stamp that can give us a better insight into the data. Subsequently, the introduced concepts are used in an experiment to pre-process log files for web usage mining. We also describe how the method could be useful for market basket analysis and give an overview of related research. The paper is concluded by some suggestions for future research.

Abstract

The most popular applications of Hopfield neural network algorithm (HNN) arepattern recognition and classification. But the HNN has some limitation like the localminima (oscillation) problem. In this paper a novel method of combining an activecontour (snake) and an artificial neural network to behave together as pattern recognitionand classification is presented. The approach used the technique of the gradient vectorflow (GVF) that locate the boundary of target pattern (image) then pass it to a classifierbuilt by Hopfield algorithm to classify it according to one of the storage pattern. Thesnakes can find the boundaries of objects so it is very accurate to take the shape of theobject wanted, that will eliminate the noise from the original image and reduce the biterror rate of the Hopfield network to 0.215 and overcome the oscillation state inrecognition of the entered pattern. MATLAB 7 program have been used for thesimulation of the active contour and the pattern classification.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:The meaningful association of androgenetic alopecia and coronary heart disease had been well documented, but few studies had been focused on the importance of lipid parameters in patients with androgenetic alopecia.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the lipid profile and its relation to female pattern alopecia.PATIENTS & METHODS:This is a case controlled study conducted at the Department of Dermatology & Venereology- Baghdad Teaching Hospital, between January 2001 and April 2002. Sixty female patients with androgenetic alopecia were enrolled in this work. From each patient a detailed history and full clinical examination were performed regarding all demographic points relative to the disease, grading of alopecia and measurement of serum lipoproteins was done. Female pattern alopecia was classified according to Sharquei’s classificationSixty age and weight matched females with normal hair status were considered as a control group. Measurement of serum lipoproteins also performed for them.RESULT:Sixty patients, their ages ranged between 20-60 years with mean + SD of 30.3 + 9.4 years. Twenty (33.3%) patients were having grade I, 20 (33.3%) patients grade II and another 20 (33.3%) patients grade III.. The mean levels of total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein and very low density lipoprotein in all patients and those with grade II and III separately were significantly higher when compared to the control group. On the other hand, the mean levels of high density lipoprotein in all patients and those with grade I and III separately were lower in comparison to the control.CONCLUSION:The atherogenic index or risk ratio was found to be significantly high in patients with female patteren alopecia and this goes parallel with the severity of baldness.
