Abstract

In this research, the effect of break in a composite material containing one fibre with non-uniform cross section area was investigated depending on Nearest Neighboring Load Theory. Using Shear Lag Theory, a new equation described the redistribution phenomena was derived starting from the Beyerlein and Landis s equation that deals with the redistribution phenomena in a uniform fiber composite material. A mathematical model described the redistribution stresses phenomena in normal stress due to break in non-uniform fiber of composite material was made. Also, the finite elements model was built using ANSYS 11.0 software.A set of numerical calculating was done in order to study the parameters (Width of the matrix and diameter of the fibre )affecting on the normal stress values and to verify the new equation. The comparison between the ANSYS results and new equation results was done and a good agreement was found.

تناول هذا البحث دراسة تأثير وجود كسر في مادة متراكبة تحوي ليف متغير المقطع (Non-Uniform Cross Section) على عملية اعادة توزيع الاجهادات العمودية معتمدين على نظرية(Nearest Neighboring Load Theory) . لقد تم استخدام نظرية تاخر القص (Shear Lag Theory) لاشتقاق معادلة جديدة تصف عملية توزيع الاجهادات من خلال الاستفادة من المعادلة المشتقة من قبل الباحثين (Beyerlein and Landis) و الخاصة بالمواد المتراكبة ذات الياف منتظمة المقطع. من خلال المعادلة الجديدة تم الحصول على موديل رياضي يحاكي عملية توزيع الاجهادات العمودية من جراء وجود كسر واحد في الليف المتغير المقطع للمادة المتراكبة. حيث تم استخدام برنامج الماتلاب (MATLAB Program) لحساب الاجهادات العمودية في اي نقطة للمادة المتراكبة. كما تم أعداد موديل رياضي اخر يحاكي عملية توزيع الاجهادات العمودية معتمدين على طريقة العناصر المحددة (Finite Elements Method) مستخدمين برنامج (ANSYS).تم اجراء مجموعة من الحسابات لدراسة العوامل المؤثرة (عرض المادة الاساس و قطر الليف ) على الاجهادات العمودية من جهة و التحقق من صحة المعادلة الجديدة.من خلال المقارنة بين نتائج برنامج (ANSYS) و نتائج المعادلة الجديدة تم الحصول على تقارب جيد بين النتيجتين.

Abstract

The frequency analysis of bones is a new tool to assess bone quality or integrity to characterize osteoporosis. The modal analysis can also be used to determine failure characteristics of remodeled bone in the fractured model.This study describes the numerical characterization of the modal analysis of the standardized femur model. The objective of the numerical procedure is to identify the natural frequencies and mode shapes of an unconstrained femur.The vibration modes of the human femur are studied by digital modal analysis and finite element simulation using ANSYS version 10 programs, with respect to femur dimensions and mechanical properties.The changing of the values of free vibration natural frequencies and mode shapes of the femur due to changing of the femur densities are studied.The results are compared to those obtained experimentally. The comparison of the results shows a good agreement, which indicates that the used model can be utilized in vibration analysis of bones.

Abstract

This paper discussed the effect of welding variables on the heat-affected zone (HAZ) by using a tensile test of welded 10 mm thick low carbon steel AISI1010 commercial plate, which is welded using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) method. Different welding electrodes E6013 and E7018 were considered as welding parameters investigated. After that, the welded specimens were cut and machined to standard configurations for tensile test. The results showed that selecting different welding electrodes had a remarkable effect on the mechanical properties such as the ultimate tensile strength, elongation percentage, and yield strength of the welded specimens. The increment in the electrical current for each electrode in the welding processes led to decrease in yield strength and tensile strength. The initial decrease in tensile strength and yield strengths were observed. This behavior was attributed to the fact that different welding electrodes and increased the required electrical current to melting for the welding electrode, increased the electrical current led to increased heat input on heat affected zone (HAZ), then the observed change mechanical properties [which could create area for defect.
