Abstract

Improving the oral health status through out a group directed periodontal health educational programs was and still as one of the most applied strategies in field of dental and periodontal disease prevention. Eighty systemically fit undergraduate dental students were randomly chosen and allocated into two groups (control and experimental). A two-lecture educational program was carried out for both groups, but Students in the experimental group were instructed to use their mobile phone reminder to remind them the time of performing oral hygiene practice. Results of this research clearly reflect the proposed positive effect of the educational program on the oral health status of the participant and highly significant improvement was recorded for those who use the mobile reminder.

Abstract

Although favorable long-term results of implant therapy have been reported, complications as infections of peri-implant mucosa (Peri-implant mucositis) and deeper implant supporting tissues (Peri-implantitis) had been repeatedly reported. Studies regarding prevalence of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis in our community are very rare because of the recent introduction of this new area of dental treatment to our country. So the aim of this study is to take an idea about the real state of implant dentistry in our community and to enrich the very poor base line data that available on this dental practice in Iraq. Sample of this research composed of 24 patients (13 Females &11 Males). Their age range was (20-60 years). All of them had worn more than two implants for at least two years. Results of this research revealed that percentage of females’ worn implants (54.17%) was greater than males (45.83%). Greater percentage of patients had worn implant for two years (45.83%) in comparison with other durations. Radiographic results revealed that there is no bone loss in most cases (66.67%) and in the remaining percentage horizontal bone loss(20.83%) was greater than vertical(12.5%). Clinical examination showed non significant differences between females and males for both Plaque Index (PLI) & Bleeding On Probing (BOP) scores.t

Abstract

Although the Root Trunk Height (RTH) as a variable in different racial groups was extensively studied, but its relation to the presence and absence of other anatomical abnormalities as Cervical Enamel Projection (CEP) never been tested. On the other hand, data focused on this variable in our community are not available. So the aim of this pilot study is to provide a base line data on this important anatomical variable (RTH) in our community and to calculate its possible correlation to the presence of (CEP). In this study (242) extracted permanent molars (126 maxillary first molar and 116 mandibular first molar) were collected from the dental clinics of Al-Mustansiriya teaching hospital /college of dentistry. RTH for each tooth was measured and presence of CEP was recorded. Results of this research showed that that mean values of RTH of permanent first molars in Iraqis were comparable with that found in other countries. On the other hand, there is a highly significant relation between the RTH and presence of CEP on buccal and mesial aspects of maxillary first molar and buccal aspect of mandibular first molar, while this relation is not significant on distal aspect of maxillary first molar and lingual aspect of mandibular first molar.
