A Microbial Survey of Second Hand Clothe Samples Collected from Baghdad Market

Abstract

Second hand represent one of the sources of illness due to environmentally related disease and injury. Used clothes are sold all over the country since they are very cheap compared with the new ones. The current study included collecting samples from different used clothing markets in Baghdad and comparing the efficiency of detergents used to reduce microbial load in the garments. The samples were adult's clothes, babies' clothes, and fabric toys. Isolation and identification of bacteria with CFU were done to determine which cloth samples carry the highest bacterial contamination and dominant pathogenic microbes associated with skin infection. Culture and biochemical methods were used for the identification. Samples were washed using two types of detergents (soap, granulated detergent) to investigate the efficiency of these detergents in reducing bacterial contamination in such clothes. The results showed that the dominant isolate bacteria in adult clothes were Staphylococcus sp. and Enterobacteriace sp. while Enterobacteriace sp., Bacillus sp. in baby clothes and Bacillus sp. in fabric toys. The results of CFU found to be the highest in baby's clothes (4x106), fabric toys (2.2x104 ), adult clothes (20x102 )respectively. Results showed that the isolated fungi were Aspergilus flavus, Aspergilus niger, Rhizopus. After washing with detergents including soap and granulated detergent, the results showed that the granulated detergent is more effective in reducing bacterial and fungal contamination than soap in all samples. This study concluded that babies' cloths are vulnmrable to contaminating with bacteria and fungi then fabric toys followed by adult clothes. It's recommended to wash second hand clothes using other methods to remove both bacterial and fungal contamination such as disinfectants then ironing.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a new water quality index for routine assessment of the river water quality for drinking purpose based on fuzzy logic artificial intelligence method. Four water quality parameters were involved in light of their significance to Iraqi waters, these parameters are biological oxygen demand, and total dissolved solids, total hardness, and fecal coliform. Fuzzy logic inference system with specific rules was developed by Matlab software using Mamdani fuzzy logic Max–Min inference system method. To evaluate the performance of this new fuzzy water quality index (FWQI), tests were conducted using the Iraqi standards for drinking water quality and the 2017 data set of Tigris River within Baghdad. Results revealed the FWQI ability to assess the water quality of Tigris River during the period of the study and that the method of fuzzy inference system was a simple, valuable and applied water quality evaluation tool for human drinking water of Iraqi rivers.

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تطوير مؤشر جديد لجودة المياه من أجل التقييم الروتيني لجودة مياه الأنهار لأغراض الشرب على أساس طريقة الذكاء الاصطناعي المنطقي. أستعملت أربعة من متغيرات جودة المياه في ضوء أهميتها للمياه العراقية ، وهذه المتغيرات هي الطلب البيولوجي للأوكسجين ، المواد الصلبة الذائبة الكلية ، العسرة الكلية ، والبكتريا القولونية البرازية. تم تطوير قواعد خاصة لنظام أستدلال المنطق الضبابي بواسطة برنامج ماتلاب وبطريقة نظام الاستدلال المنطقي ممداني للحد الأقصى- الأدنى. ولغرض تقييم أداء هذا الدليل الجديد لجودة المياه ، أجريت أختبارات باستخدام المعايير العراقية لجودة مياه الشرب ومجموعة بيانات جودة المياه لعام 2017 لنهر دجلة داخل بغداد. وكشفت النتائج عن قدرة الدليل المقترح على تقييم جودة مياه نهر دجلة خلال فترة الدراسة ، وأن طريقة نظام أستدلال المنطق الضبابي كانت أداة عملية وبسيطة يمكن الاعتماد عليها لتقييم نوعية المياه لغرض الشرب في الأنهار العراقية.

Abstract

ABSTRACT In this study, the local isolate of genus Aeromonas hydrophila which isolated from local fresh water was used,. This bacterium was investigated to produce B-hemolysin, the haemolytic activity of hemolysin against different RBCs sources shown human RBC s was optimum for hemolysis with value 65 unit, while sheep and rabbit RBCs hemolysis were 55, 52 unit respectively. The Histopathological effects for hemolysin and bacterial suspension were study, it was found that the hemolysin more active on kidney tissue of injected mice and caused many changes comparatively with bacterial suspension include atrophy of renal glomerulus, degeneration of nucleus , vaculation of cytoplasm , PMNs filtration and few hemorrhage in kidney tissue.
