Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in Slot Groove Circular Tube with Internal Twisted Tape

Abstract

Numerical and experimental investigation on the turbulent enhancement convective heat transfer inside slot and plain dimples tubes with internal twisted tape were performed in this study. An experimental rig was constructed and instrumented to evaluate the heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop at this surface. Air was used as working fluid, and steam was used as a heating source where constant wall temperature condition of (135C˚) was achieved. Heat transfer and pressure drop data were obtained from four configuration tube. The test facility was capable for providing turbulent flow with Reynolds number varied from 4000 to 15000. Thermal and hydrodynamic flow pattern was numerically studied using commercial code FLUENT15. The average heat transfer of the experimental results was in good agreement with the numerical ones. The result depict that the slot dimple tube with twist tape and plain tube with twist tape give high enhancement in heat transfer relative to plain tube due to increase in area of heat transfer. The average enhancement ratio for slot dimple tube with (TR =4 and 8) are (1.204 and 1.202) respectively .This indicates that 15.5-20.4% of heat transfer area can be saved at the same pumping power for present cases configuration compared with the plain tube heat exchanger.

تم في هذا البحث التحقق نظريا" وعمليا" لتحسين انتقال الحرارة بالحمل للجريان المضطرب داخل انبوب ذي ندب الشقي والانبوب العادي مع وجود شريط محلزن داخل هذه الانابيب. تم بناء الجهاز لاجراء التجارب العملية لايجاد مقدار التحسن في انتقال الحرارة والانخفاض في الضغط بين مقدمة ومؤخرة هذه الندب الشقية. المائع المستخدم لاجراء التجارب العملية هو الهواء, بينما يستخدم بخار الماء كمصدر الحرارة حيث تصل درجة الحرارة عند الجدار (135 درجة سليزيه). التجارب العملية رتب بحيث ممكن الحصول على جريان مضطرب برقم رينولد يتراوح من 4000 الى 15000. نمط الجريان الهيدرولكي والحراري لهذة التصاميم تم دراستها نظريا" باستخدام برنامج الفلونت 15. نتائج معدل انتقال الحرارة العملية كانت بتوافق جيد مع النتائج النظرية. النتائج بينت ان الانبوب ذي الندب الشقي مع شريط ملتوي داخلي والانبوب الاعتيادي مع شريط ملتوي داخلي اعطى تحسن عالي بانتقال الحاراة نسبة" الى الانبوب الاعتيادي من دون شريط داخلي وذلك نتيجه لزيادة في مساحة انتقال الحرارة.معدل نسبة التحسين للانبوب ذي الندب الشقي مع شريط داخلي ( ذي نسبة التواء 4 و8 ) كان (1.204 و1.202) على التوالي. هذا النتائج تبين بان 15.5-20.4% من مساحة انتقال الحرارة ممكم الاحتفاظ بها لنفس قدرة الضخ لتصاميم الحالية مقارنة بالمبادلات الحرارية ذات الانبوب الاعتيادي.

Abstract

Experimental investigation of film cooling from two staggered rows holes,backward and forward; of opposite injection angles has been done. The forward holes row was embedded in arc trench. The aim of using arc trench is to enhance the poor mechanical properties of that in rectangular trench. The results of film cooling performance are given here in a form of adiabatic cooling film effectiveness and heattransfer coefficients. In the tests test warm air is blown through tunnel, and cold air through the plenum chamber. When the warm air flowed through the test section it heated the model downstream. Infrared camera is used to measure the model surface temperatures. The comparison with the same holes arrangements and same holes and trench dimensions between existing rectangular trench results and present arc trenchedshowed that the film cooling thermal performance for both cases are approximately very close with slight differences, these differences are more or less according to the values of blowing ratios.

Abstract

This paper is about the preparations and methods used to teach, evaluate and test students without the use of papers in lectures or in mid and final exams for two classes: Computer Aided design CAD for third year students and Computer Aided Engineering CAE for fourth year students. Using both SolidWorks and ANSYS. This method was called paperless learning because computers are only being used for teaching and evaluating students and performing examinations. Students are involved interactively in the scientific material where this material is applied using computer programs which enable the student to perform simulations to solve all engineering problems. Also, students are given all electronic learning methods which are given in the first lecture and documented in discs, USB drives, and or external hard drives, these devices contain numerous eBooks, exercises, projects, educational films, and links and URLs for internet websites. This data is documented as Word documents or PDFs and students are free to copy and print any of these authorized materials to benefit from. Thus, the old-fashioned method of copying lectures on papers has been excluded so that the scientific material cannot be trapped within few exercises or fixed schedules during the academic year, but also given as electronic materials as mentioned earlier. This electronic material is being updated continuously along the academic year every year.
