Abstract

In this work, semiconducting nickel oxide (NiO) nanostructures were prepared by reactive dc plasma sputtering method. Magnetron was employed at the cathode to prepare these nanostructures and show the advantage of such device in the production of highly pure nanostructures. The sputtered nickel atoms were sputtered and oxidized in presence of oxygen in the Ar:O2 gas mixture of 4:1 ratio. Employment of magnetron results in formation of NiO only in the final samples according to the XRD analysis, increase the roughness and hence surface area of the produced NiO nanostructures, and finally decrease the particle size of NiO nanoparticles lower than 100nm. These improvements in the structural properties of the produced NiO make these nanostructures good candidates for specific applications, such as photodetectors, solar cells and electrochromic smart windows.

Abstract

In this work, the effects of geometries of stainless steel electrodes used inelectrolytic analysis cells were studied. These cells are used for preparation ofmetallic nanostructures. These effects can be observed by studying energy transfercharacteristics of electrolytic cell as the electric field and current density aredetermined by its electrode geometry. Four electrode geometries were used in thiswork.

Abstract

In this work, the spectral properties of the Hibiscus sabdariffa organic dye solved in different solvents were studied by introducing the effect of dye concentration on its absorbance and transmission spectra within the range 400-800nm. As well, the effect of adding acid to the dye solution on these properties was introduced. Results showed that the spectral properties of the dye depend substantially on the type of the solvent, which has to be chosen carefully to achieve the optimum properties of this dye to be used as a sunlight sensing organic medium in dye-sensitized solar cells. Also, the results showed that the spectral properties of this dye are noticeably affected by the presence of acid in the solution. Variation of acidic content in the dye solution was studied and its effect on both absorbance and transmittance was studied. As the acidic content in the solution was increased, the absorbance increased while transmittance decreased that may be attributed to dissociation of dye molecules, formation of new different compounds and/or quenching the spectral activity of the Hibiscus sabdariffa dye molecules.

Abstract

Results showed that the spectral properties of the dye depend substantially on the type of the solvent, which has to be chosen carefully to achieve the optimum properties of this dye to be used as a sunlight sensing organic medium in dye-sensitized solar cells. Also, the results showed that the spectral properties of this dye are noticeably affected by the presence of impurity particles of a semiconductor when the suitable solvent is used. These particles act as scattering centers through the solution to the electromagnetic radiation in the visible region and hence the intensities of the absorbed and transmitted componentsof the radiation are decreased

في هذا البحث، أجريت دراسة للخصائص الطيفية لصبغة Hibiscus sabdariffa العضوية في مذيبات مختلفة من خلال دراسة تأثير تركيز الصبغة في المحلول على أطياف الامتصاص والنفاذية في مدى الأطوال الموجية 400-800nmعلاوة على دراسة تأثير إضافة جسيمات من مادة شبه موصلة على مثل هذه الخصائص الطيفية. وقد أظهرت الدراسة اعتماد الخصائص الطيفية لهذه الصبغة على نوع المذيب بشكل ملحوظ وأن اختيار المذيب المناسب لها يجب أن يراعي بلوغ أفضل الخصائص الطيفية التي تحقق الهدف من استخدامها كوسط عضوي متحسس لضوء الشمس. إن الخصائص الطيفية للصبغة المذابة في المذيب المناسب تتأثر بوجود جسيمات من مادة شبه موصلة في المحلول الذي يحتويها إذ تعمل هذه الجسيمات على استطارة الإشعاع الكهرومغناطيسي الساقط على الصبغة في منطقة الأطوال الموجية المرئية فيسبب نقصان شدة الجزئين الممتص والنافذ من الإشعاع.
