Abstract

Iraqi National Super Grid suffers from out of synchronism of the system due to short circuit in the lines. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of optimum generation and reconfiguration of some transmission paths on transient stability improvement for Iraqi Network in case of short circuit in Haditha-Qaim line because it is one of the wrest lines. A programmable package build under Matlab5.3 was used to determine synchronous machines rotor angles as an indicator of transient stability. Sad Al-Mosul, Haditha and Nasiriya power plant were chosen to notice the situation of stability.

تعاني شبكة الضغط الفائق في العراق من مشكلة خروج المنظومة عن التزامن وذلك عند حدوث دائرة قصر في احد خطوط الشبكة. يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة تأثير التوليد الأمثل وتأثير إعادة تشكيل بعض مسارات الخطوط في تحسين الاستقرارية العابرة في شبكة الضغط الفائق وذلك عند حدوث دائرة قصر في خط حديثة – القائم لأنه يعتبر أحد أضعف الخطوط في المنظومة. تم استخدام برنامج جاهز بلغة Matlab5.3 لحساب زوايا دوار المكائن التزامنية كمؤشر لحالة الاستقرارية.تم اختيار محطات توليد سد الموصل, حديثة و الناصرية لملاحظة أستقرارية المنظومة.

Abstract

This search aims to study the effects of (SSSC)”static synchronous series compensator– one of the FACTS devices” – on reducing the power losses and improving voltage profile of Iraqi national grid system. Proposed particle swarm optimization (“PSO”) to determine the optimum location of “SSSC” devices based objective function that depends on the power and voltage as fitness. The proposed algorithm is checked on the IEEE- 9bus. Then is applied on the Iraqi national grid. The results show the ability of the proposed method to determine the optimum location of static synchronous series compensator (SSSc) that reduced losses of active power and improve the bus “voltage profile”. The proposed algorithms are implemented by using MATLAB package version 7.10

Abstract

The power losses in distribution system are high, which form 70 – 80% of total transmission and distribution losses. High losses have severe impact on stability, reliability as well as economy. Therefore, minimization of these losses is very necessary. In this paper proposed various schemes to reduce the active power losses in distribution network, given as:- Optimum reconfiguration network,- Optimum Distributed Generation (DG) placement and- Optimum reconfiguration with optimum (DG) placement.Using Cymdist software to implement the optimal reconfiguration algorithm and proposed Genetic Algorithm (GA) to find the size and location, which programmed under MATLAB software package. Whereon the proposed methodology (GA) simplifies the problem by dividing it in two phases, namely Placement Planning Model (PPM) and Size Planning Model (SPM) thereby reducing the search space. It was the integration of the two methods were used after each method individually to obtain minimum real power losses with better bus voltage (better efficiency for network).To verify the proposed algorithms, IEEE 33-bus system and al – jihad neighborhood distribution system (Baghdad distribution sector) are tested. The simulation results are compared with proposed works in literature.

Abstract

AbstractThe increasing demand on installing small generating units had resulted in focusing on advanced concern of distributed generation (DG) units located at specific points of the electrical distribution grid as a mean of reduction in real power losses. This issue had been dealt with many techniques over the last decades. This research paper is taking Genetic Algorithm technique into consideration as one of the most efficient tools in calculating the optimum value of these DG units added to the grid locations suffering from loading effect based voltage drop at the minimum real power loss. This research is also concerning the impact of increasing number of locations of DG units added to the grid the percentage of reduction in real power loss.

الملخصإن الطلب المتزايد لوحدات التوليد الصغيرة أدى إلى اهتمام متجدد في وحدات التوليد المنتشرة (Units Distributed Generation) على مواقع معينة من الشبكة حيث تعد وسيلة لتقليل الفقد بالقدرة الحقيقية ، وقد تم التعامل مع الموضوع بتقنيات متعددة على مدى العقود المنصرمة. يتناول البحث هذه المسألة باستعمال الخوارزمية الجينية (Genetic Algorithm) وهي إحدى الوسائل المستخدمة لحساب القيمة المثلى لوحدات التوليد المضافة إلى المواقع التي تعاني من هبوط بالفولتية عند التحميل عند أقل فقد بالقدرة الحقيقية ، وكذلك دراسة تأثير زيادة عدد المواقع لإضافة وحدات التوليد على نسبة تقليل الفقد بالقدرة الحقيقية.تم تطبيق الطريقة المقترحة على منظومة IEEE (30 Bus).

Abstract

In recent years the nature of load has changed drastically and different electrical equipment's. mercury lamps, transformers, motors, switchgears are running inherently at low power factor. Planning of electrical distribution networks is considered of highest priority at the present time in Baghdad city, due to the huge increase in electrical power demand and expansions imposed on distribution networks as a result of the great and rapid urban - development. This work presents the new and efficient approach for capacitor placement in radial distribution network that determine the optimal locations and size of capacitor with the main objective for the improving voltage profile, reducing active power losses and improving power factor. This work includes two parts: part one implementation on the IEEE 33-bus test system using CYMDIST software program, as a tool for the simulation of a distribution network and performing the required analysis. The results, shows a good matching as compared with previous work mentioned in the literature and used for the same network but the analysis of different ways. , and in part two, we select actual sector of Baghdad city distribution network that is Al Adel_33/11kV_feeders 2, 3, 6, and 7 (11 kV_93 bus) network is depicted for the implementation of this analysis. The results using backward / forward load flow method, show that minimum power losses and improving voltage profile had been achieved. So the network can be operate in normal condition without any violating operational constraints.

Abstract

This paper presents a method to enhance the performance of Iraqi power distribution systems using an optimal system reconfiguration strategy. The objective of the proposed method is to minimize the active power losses and then improve the voltage profile with considering the current-carrying capacity of the system branches. In order to determine the optimal system configuration, a new optimization method, called selective water cycle optimization method, is also proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the traditional water cycle optimization method, but it is modified to consider the selective search space required in the reconfiguration problem. The proposed methods were evaluated and tested on an actual distribution system nominated by the Directorate of Electricity Distribution in Babylon/Iraq, based on repeated consumer complaints about the poor quality of the power supply.

يقدم هذا البحث طريقة لتَحسين أداءِ أنظمة توزيع الطاقة الكهربائية العراقية باستخدام استراتيجية إعادة التشكيل المثلى لأنظمة التوزيع. ان الهدف من الطريقة المقترحة هو تقليل خسائر الطاقة ومن ثم تحسين مستوى الفولتية مع مراعاة سعة تحمل افرع النظام للتيار الكهربائي. ومن اجل تحديد التشكيل الامثل للنظام، يقترح ايضا في هذا البحث طريقة جديدة لتحقيق الأمثلية, تسمى طريقة دورة المياه الانتقائية. تستند طريقة تحقيق الأمثلية المقترحة على طريقة دورة المياه التقليدية، ولكنها عُدِلت للأخذ بنظر الاعتبار مجال البحث الانتقائي المطلوب في مشكلة إعادة التشكيل. ان الطرق المُقتَرَحة قُيّمتْ وإختبرتْ على نظام توزيع حقيقي الذي رشحته مديرية توزيع الكهرباء في بابل / العراق، استنادا إلى شكاوى المستهلكين المتكررة حول سوء نوعية تجهيز القدرة الكهربائية.
