Abstract

Background: Extradural hematoma (epidural hematoma) result from tearing of dural or skull vessels caused by deformation of the skull or fracture. Epidural hematoma can occur at all ages but are seen primarily in patients younger than 60 years.Patients and Methods: this prospective study was conducted on 50 patients (38 male, 12 female) suffering from head injury and has a CT scan evidence of extradural hematoma during the period from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2008 in Neurology surgery hospital.
Results: There were 4 patients above 50years, the cause of injury was fall in50%, assault24%, RTA20%and bullet injury 6%.the commonest site was temporal region 42%.surgical treatment were done to 39 patients, Middle meningeal artery and its branches was the source of bleeding in 42%, full recovery achieved in 62%, post operatively 4patients suffered from anaemia, one of them required blood transfusion. Conclusion: Extradural hematomas are life-threatening injury should be treated by surgery and conservative treatment only for small EDH with no symptoms and remain so or disappear by Serial follow-up CT scan Extradural hematoma.

Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Basrah, Basrah, IRAQ.AbstractThis study aimed to evaluate the degree of oxidative stress associated with magneticresonance imaging (MRI) examination.Serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were estimated in 70 patients, 44 males and 26 females,16-70 years of age underwent MRI examination for various reasons.There was an overall increase in serum MDA level following MRI examination with overallmean difference between pre- and post- MRI examination MDA level of 0.066 ±0.110 Mmole /l(P<0.00l).Variables causes significant elevation of serum MDA level included, age older than 25 years(P-values for 25-44 years, 45-64 years and >=65 were <0.001, < 0.05 and 0.001 respectively),MRI examination of durations shorter than 20 minutes (P<0.05) and MRI examinations of thebrain (P<0.01) and the abdomen (P<0.05). On the other hand, parameters of no significanteffect on MDA levels included younger ages, MRI examinations of durations longer than 20minutes, systemic diseases and MRI examination of the spine (P>0.05).It is concluded that MRI examination is associated with significant free radical activity reflectedby marked elevation of serum MDA levels. This implies that MRI examination may impose anoxidative assault which in turn, may be of clinical significance in elderly patients in particular.

Abstract

The problem of the research is centralized in answering the following questions:1- What is the type of brain control for the third class female students in the lesson of fencing?2- What is the effect of the approach followed according to the brain control in learning the skills of simple attack in fencing? The aim of this research is to:1- Identify the type of brain control for the third class female students at the Faculty of Physical Education / Diyala in the lesson of fencing.2- Identify of the approach employed depending on the brain control in learning the skills of simple attack for female students in fencing. The two researchers used the experimental method to the suit the problem of the research. The research community was the third stage female students in the academic year 2011 - 2012 whose number was (63) students; the research sample was 42 students divided into three experimental groups at a rate of (12) students per group distributed according to the types of brain control.

تمركزت مشكلة البحث في الإجابة عن تساؤلات التالية: 1- ما نوع السيطرة الدماغية لدى طالبات المرحلة الثالثة في مادة المبارزة ؟ 2- ما تاثير المنهج المتبع وفق السيطرة الدماغية في تعلم مهارات الهجوم البسيط بالمبارزة؟ وهدف البحث إلى التعرف على نوع السيطرة الدماغية لدى طالبات المرحلة الثالثة بكلية التربية الرياضية / ديالى بمادة المبارزة، والتعرف على تأثير المنهج المعتمد وفق السيطرة الدماغية في تعلم مهارات الهجوم البسيط لدى الطالبات بالمبارزة. إذ استخدم الباحثان المنهج التجريبي لملائمته مشكلة البحث. أما مجتمع البحث فكان طالبات المرحلة الثالثة للعام الدراسي 2011 – 2012 والبالغ عددهن (63) طالبة، وبلغت عينة البحث 42 طالبة مقسمة على ثلاث مجموعات تجريبية بمعدل (12) طالبة لكل مجموعة وزعت وفقاً لأنماط السيطرة الدماغية. بالإضافة إلى وسائل جمع المعلومات والأجهزة والأدوات المستخدمة والاختبارات القبلية والبعدية وتنفيذ المنهج والوسائل الإحصائية إذ استخدم الباحثان الحقيبة الإحصائيةSPSS لمعالجة البيانات.
