The Effect of Different Beverage Solutions on the Hardness of Different Acrylic Denture Teeth

Abstract

To determine the effect of different beverage solutions on the hardness of different acrylic denture teeth which are commercially available. Materials and Methods: Sixty samples were prepared from three brands of artificial teeth in this study. The posterior teeth of each brand were placed in auto polymerizing acrylic resin and the occlusal surfaces were ground flat, then immersed in distilled water (control), Pepsi, coffee and tea solutions for 30 days and then the hardness were tested using Vickers microhardness tester. Results: The RMH denture teeth materials showed the highest hardness than other denture teeth materials. Pepsi was more effective than tea and coffee in reducing the hardness of different acrylic teeth materials. Conclusions: Pepsi reduced the hardness of different acrylic teeth materials during the 30 days immersion. The hardness of RMH denture teeth materials was less affective by the different beverage solutions

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of dental erosion among 10-12 year old children in Mosul city, mean erosion in teeth and surfaces, amount ofcarbonated beverages and fruit juice consumed in the sample, and the correlationbetween dental erosion and some variables. Total sample consisted of 400 childrenderived from different primary schools in the city center. Examination was performedaccording to tooth wear index by Smith and Knight 1984 modified by Millword et al1994.Results showed that dental erosion was highly prevalent 74.2% in the sample,increasing with increasing age, with boys showing a higher prevalence in dentalerosion compared to girls with significant difference. Mean erosion scores for primaryteeth were slightly less then permanent teeth, with a significant difference between 10and 12 years of age for both dentitions.Buccal/labial surfaces exhibited more erosion, followed by lingual/palatal andfinally occlusal /incisal surfaces, with boys showing more erosion in all surfaces thangirls. A large proportion of the sample consumed carbonated beverages 3-5 /weekwith boys consuming more than girls as seen in the erosion group, fruit juice was alsolargely consumed by the sample, especially the group that showed erosion. A positivecorrelation was found between erosion, level of father’s education, time of drinking,method, amount of carbonated beverages and fruit juice consumed.Preventive measures are considered to be the only effective course of managementof dental erosion, by reducing intake of carbonated beverages and fruit juice, alsomodification of erosive drinks, medicines and foods may prove to be an acceptable future strategy world wide

Abstract

Ponceau 4R(E124) is azo dye that is mostly used in some of food products such as soft drinks, beverages, jelly and ham. A simple and sensitive procedure is established for the determination of ponceau 4R using cloud point extraction (CPE). In order to get the optimum conditions for ponceau 4R extraction, various analytical factors such as pH media, nonionic surfactant TX-114 or Brij-56, cationic surfactant CPC and equilibration temperature was investigated. The linearity of calibration graph was above the range of 0.05-1.7 µg ml-1. The LOD and LOQ using TX-114 were based to be 0.025, 0.075 µg ml-1 whereas for Brij-56 were found as 0.062, 0.187 µg ml-1 respectively. The proposed procedure was successfully employed for ponceau 4R detection in several beverages samples

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effect of beverages (Distilled water ,Artificial orange, Zamzam water, Natural orange, Cola, coffee, and Tea) on the color stability of the highly impact resin. Materials and methods: Total samples of this research were (48) samples of highly impact resin were prepared 30 * 20 * 1.5 mm (length, width and thickness). Six samples were immersed in each type of beverage. The last six sample (control) without any type of beverage (after control group and other beverage groups were evaluated after (3 hours, 9 hrs, 18 hrs, 36.5 hrs, and 73 hrs) immersion time intervals by using (CIE L* a* b* ) system. the results of this research were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Duncan’s multiple range test. Results : There was no significant difference among beverages at immersion time intervals (3 hrs, 9 hrs, 18 hrs, and 73 hrs) except at (36.5 hrs) there was a significant difference, also the results showed that there was no significant difference among immersion time intervals for different types of bever-ages. Conclusions: among beverages coffee and tea showed unaccepted value of ΔE at all immersion time intervals except at (9 hrs) while cola showed an accepted values of ΔE except at (3 hrs) of immer-sion where ΔE value was unaccepted.

Abstract

Swallow syncope or arrhythmias caused by deglutition, although generally considered as a benign condition, but it becomes really significant if occurs at certain times like during driving, crossing roads or operating machinery. They are generally divided into bradyarrythmias and tachyarrythmias; bradyarrhythmia being more common but literature also describes very few case reports causing tachyarrythmias during deglutition. Atrial fibrillation is quite uncommon and has rarely been reported especially after drinking cold beverages. Here we are reporting a 44 years old gentleman who experienced palpitations and found to have atrial fibrillation after drinking ice cold juice. He had two documented episodes in three year period, each time converted spontaneously to sinus rhythm within 24 hours.

Abstract

The optimization of Safety stock considered an important element in the supply chain of beverage industries. In this paper, dynamic fuzzy logic was used as an advanced approach to identify the safety stock level in the beverage industries with the objective of minimizing total cost and meet with customer requirements. The problem of shortage occurred in these organizations due to poor inventory strategies which considered negative storage driver, so provide advanced safety stock identification strategy will lead to overcome this problem especially for organizations work under make to stock policy. Three main steps are included here to identify safety stock level firstly, building of fuzzy sets for each variable, secondly, identifying max values to represent universe of discourse of variables and identify monthly input values of the variables, finally, execution of the proposed model in fuzzy logic tool embedded in Matlab software. In order to demonstrate the validity of proposed model, real data soft drink supply chain problem was presented. Reduction in stock-out of drinks about 99.9% was obtained by applying this model where the shortage was decreased from (53,423 package) to only (154 package). The obtained results of the research demonstrated the need to adopt advanced methodologies such as soft computing to identify safety stock level.

يعتبر تحديد المستوى الأمثل لمخزون الامان عنصرا هاما في سلسلة توريد صناعات المشروبات الغازية. في هذه البحث، تم استخدام المنطق الضبابي الديناميكي كنهج متقدم لتحديد مستوى مخزون الامان في صناعات المشروبات الغازية بهدف تقليل الكلفة الإجمالية وتلبية متطلبات العملاء. ان حدوث مشكلة النقص وعدم تلبية طلبات المستهلكين في هذه الشركات بسبب ضعف استراتيجيات الخزين المتبعة تعتبر امرا سلبيا للغاية، لذا فإن توفير استراتيجية خزين الامان المتقدمة سيؤدي إلى التغلب على هذه المشكلة خاصة بالنسبة إلى الشركات التي تعمل ضمن سياسة التصنيع لاجل التخزين. في هذا البحث تم تضمين ثلاث خطوات رئيسية هنا لتحديد مستوى الخزين الامن SS وهي أولاً، بناء مجموعة ضبابية لكل متغير، وثانيًا تحديد القيم القصوى لتمثيل مستوى الاحداثي السيني للمتغير الضبابي وكذلك تحديد قيم المدخلات الشهرية للمتغيرات، وأخيراً، تنفيذ النموذج المقترح في أداة المنطق الضبابي وذلك من خلال تطبيق برنامج Matlab. والذي يوفر الحل الموصى به ومن اجل اثبات صلاحية النموذج المقترح، تم تطبيقه لحل مشكلة في احدى شركات صناعة المشروبات الغازية وكذلك يثبت صلاحية النموذج المقترح والمناسب لهذه الصناعات. بعد تطبيق النموذج المقترح حدث تخفيض في العجز في تلبية طلبات المستهلكين بنسبة تصل الى 99.9% حيث انخفض مستوى العجز من (53,423 علبة) الى (154 علبة) فقط. أظهرت النتائج التي تم الحصول عليها من البحث الحاجة إلى اعتماد منهجيات متقدمة مثل الحوسبة الناعمة لتحديد مستوى مخزون السلامة.
