في مطلعَ العام 2011، شهدت المنطقة العربية، عدد من الأحداث والتطورات، تمثل باندلاع الثورات في بعض البلدان العربية، كانت حصيلة لتراكمات ما حدث في المدد السابقة بسبب تضاؤل شرعية بعض الأنظمة الحاكمة على مدى عقود من الزمن، كانت بواكيرها في تونس، التي مثلت منطلقا ثوريا للشعوب العربية للانتفاض ضد واقعها السياسي؛ إلا إنها عانت من التنافس القطري السعودي، بعد إحداث التغيير، تمثل بغلبة النفوذ القطري في بادئ الأمر، بتحالفه مع الإسلاميين الذين وصلوا إلى السلطة بفضل الدعم القطري الكبير والأوضاع الداخلية المساعدة، التي تمثلت بدعم شرائح كبيرة من الشعب التونسي التي عانت التهميش قبل أحداث التغيير، للإسلاميين ورأت فيهم الكفاءة برفع الظلم والجور عن هذه الشرائح، إلا أن الأمور لم تسير وفق ما كانت تطمح له هذه خاصة بعد شيوع عوامل عدم الأمن والاستقرار ضمن الداخل التونسي، الأمر الذي ساء من الوضع الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، مما أعطى فرصة للعلمانيين المدعومين بنحو كبير من السعودية، معظمهم من بقايا النظام السابق، أن يفوزوا بالانتخابات وان يكون لهم الغلبة في اتخاذ القرار دون انحسار كامل للإسلاميين، الذين ظلوا مشاركين في السلطة، محققين نوع من التوازن في التركيبة السياسية في الدولة التونسية.
