Influence of clinical and radiographical features on complete i denture acceptance in elderly

Abstract

One hundred fort nine edentuolus atients who were included in this studyseeking for a complete denture. Sixty five patients of them were seeking for a denture forthe first time, 45 patients had a history of one set of denture, and 39 patients had a historyof two sets of dentures. All the technical and the laboratory work for construction of thecomplete denture was followed under the supervision of one prosthodontist. Theevaluation of the dentures regarding function, comfort, appearance and generalsatisfaction was done by the patients themselves. The results indicated that patientsacceptability for wearing a new complete denture was increased in those with a histo ofprevious denture .

Abstract

Background and objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence, size, shape and location of tori in partially and completely edentulous patients attending the College of Dentistry/ Hawler Medical University from 2009-2011.Methods: In a retrospective study four hundred and fifty patients case file from Erbil city were examined for the presence of oral tori in prosthodontic department, College of Den-tistry, Hawler Medical University. The size, shape and location of tori were recorded and related with the age and sex of patients.Results: The overall prevalence of tori was 14.2% (64 cases). The prevalence of torus palatinus was 60.9% (39/64), while that of torus mandibularis was significantly lesser 23.5 % (15/64).Both types of tori were associated with each other in 15.62% of cases (10/64).Conclusion: There was no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of tori be-tween males and females. There was a significant relationship between the presence of mandibular and palatal tori.

Abstract

Examination and diagnostic charts of previous studies had concentrated on certain factors and ignored others, which affect on the suggestion and sequence of sound treatment plans besides that several different computer programs have been developed to aid in dental decision making. The goals of this paper were to prepare a diagnostic chart especially for partially edentulous patients, that help dentists make decisions in terms of diagnosis and treatment planning by using visual basic version 5.0 to design a special program for this study to improve patient care by helping the dentist make better decisions in vastly increasing field of knowledge in dentistry to help dentist for future research about the most popular and complex diseases and how to treat it, to help other Ministries, Ministry of higher education, and Ministry of health and special clinician in the application of Removable Prosthetic Diagnostic computer Program (RPDcP). A program was designed specially for this study by using visual basic version 5.0.This program contains (41) program forms, (255 fields) of examination and diagnosis of partially edentulous patients. The program was applied clinically. The results were statistically analyzed by using principal component analysis and linear combination to explain the whole variation to the original data. The program had capabilities of production, storage, retrieval, scanning, browsing to permit integration of other documents or pictorial representations.
